This is because the certificates are issued to sites (more exactly, to a
specific site name), and not to IP addresses or whatsoever. This means using
a certificate initially issued to "domain.com" with a different
host.domain.tld (ie www.domain.com, or different.domain.com, or
www.anotherdomain.com) will result in warning windows popping up with the
browser......., and this doesn't make a good picture of your business.
A solution would be to setup a virtual site "domain.com" (no hostname), and
activate SSL for this site. This can be done easily with Brosoft's SSL
server (http://www.brosoft.net/en/), but I have no clue on how to do this
manually.
Then your secure site will be accessible at https://domain.com, and the
certificate will work, and there won't be any warning messages in the
visitor's browser.....
Hope this helps.
