I spoke with Cobalt support this morning, and there is apparently a
problem with the wizard, which they are working on.
I'm not opposed to using ipfwadm directly, but since such things are
not supported, I'm a little reluctant to do so. I hope they also
update the kernel soon to be able to use ipchains instead.
I have also experienced frustration in understanding the wizard. I
wonder if its just easier to directly use ipfwadm. At any rate it
would be very nice if Cobalt could provide a little more explanation
as to how the wizard works and provide examples or default
configurations. Otherwise you will just have to figure it out
on your own. The best way to do this is after you enter and
enable the wizard's rules use ipfwadm to see what actually gets
generated. For example, ipfwadm -F -l will show all the forward
rules. You can also find a few firewall documents on the internet
that are quite helpful.
