Hawke,
I'm not sure if you had updated the kernel, but from your messages you had
figured out how to turn the console on. With one of the current kernels,
you would be able to watch the boot process, and if it dumped itself into
single user mode, you would be able to interact with the unit single user,
which it sounds like you would understand how to do so. However, from your
description it sounds like the filesystem is severely corrupted... to the
point that it's not recoverable. At that point, I would recommend an OS
restore CD to reinstall a clean version of the OS on the system. However,
this does not answer the question as to why the unit went on the fritz in
the first place. If it's still under warranty, perhaps you should return it
for a replacement.
