I just received a VERY disappointing email from the creators of the Urchin
statistics software:

With Urchin ISP 2.x you can not run your own banner ads.  However,
the 3.x version of Urchin, due out in late February, will allow you
to advertise on the reports.  After the 3.x release, Urchin will no
longer come in the current free "adware" version.  3.x will be
licensable for $99 per domain.  If you have over 1000 sites, you'll
want to move up to Urchin Enterprise which incorporates a bulk
pricing model.

This means (1) no free version with ads, and (2) an incredibly high $99 per
domain fee (just for statistics!!!). Even thought the Urchin stats are the
best I've ever seen, I probably will say.... no!

Sad fact.

I have emailed them, and hopefully they will understand my concerns with
their new pricing model, but IMO unless they change their planned pricing
model, Urchin becomes uninteresting, at least for the small ISP, who can't
afford paying either $99 per domain or the enterprise version, which is very
expensive.

If some people could also email the guys at the sales dep., maybe we can all
convince them...., I think not tho. Try emailing Brett Crosby of
bc@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, this is the guy that informed me about the new
pricing model.
