I haven't got a clue if it's NEEDED, but it seems to contain some reference
to the LCD display, and my basis for using it was that if Cobalt used it..
I'm using it ;-)

Just curious why this patch is necessary?
I have MySQL 3.22.30, Apache 1.3.11, and PHP 3.0.13 running just fine...
but of course I don't use any of the Cobalt web-based tools, so maybe
that's what the patch enables?
