[cobalt-users] trailing slashes and more..

If you all recall I posted several situations I'm dealing with on my new
RaQ3.. the machine is not live and if you try to access a lower
sub-directory (not sub-web - tho I'm not really sure what a sub web is..
never heard that term before this list) without the trailing slash you got
a 404 error.. add the trailing slash and bingo there you are..

Liz commented that her RaQ3 right out of the box did not have this problem..

After getting very frustrated with the Sage/Interlient support, I called
Cobalt today.. got a nice guy who took my info and 2 hours later a patient
and helpful tech called back.. we walked thru most of my Q's and promised
to get back to me.. he did.. he says that once the machine is live, this
situation should just simply dissapear.. <bowing to the computer gods>

As far as my disappearing users once set to vacation.. well he has no
answer for that... except maybe when the user was created it did not finish
doing its job.. OK I'll buy that.. BUT.. this only happens when a user is
set to vacation..

Says I have to remove the users from the /var/spool/mail and reboot.. so I
suppose I'll have to call sage to get that done properly..

Lastly.. htaccess.. I have a number of lower directories on the site that
need htaccess files.. they work fine on the shared box.. but I'll be damned
if I can get them to work here..

I went to Cobalt KB and copy & pasted their version.. changed the path to
the htpasswd file and still no access..
here's what it says now.. (oh BTW.. on 2 diff KB articles.. the 2nd line..
one has a space: allow, deny this version does not.. the spaced version
does not even bring up the user/pass pop up box)
# Access file
order allow,deny
allow from all
require valid-user
Authname salonpub
Authtype Basic
AuthUserFile /home/sites/home/web/cgibin/salonpub/customers/.htpasswd

So tell me what is wrong here???
I thought I just figured it out here.. I looked at the permissions:
-rw-rw-r-- 1 admin home 174 Jan 28 18:39 .htaccess
-rw-r--r-- 1 root home 19 Jan 28 18:33 .htpasswd

and saw the passwd file created by root not admin.. so logged in as admin,
I deleted and tried.. keyword here being tried.. to recreate, but I get a
response:
bash: htpasswd: command not found
I sent over via FTP the password file from the shared server.. but it won;t
let me in at all.. Ideas here??

Another Q.. sorry.. on the shared box when FTP'd in I can see the .files,
on the Cobalt I can't is there a setting I can tweak??

Thanks again :)
making progress here if not slow and frustrating.. progress just the same..
