Skipping even more than that...why not do this:

If you are on a windows-type machine, goto start | run and type:

                  telnet www.beautytech.com 25

Which gives you the following results:

Trying 216.205.40.210...
Connected to www.beautytech.com.
Escape character is '^]'.
220 www18.clever.net ESMTP Sendmail 8.9.0/8.9.0; Wed, 26 Jan 2000 13:09:35
-0500 (EST)


Of course if you are on a Unix-type machine you don't even need ot bother
with the Start | Run stuff ;+}.
