Hi, Debbie...
Though I have a RaQ2 and NOT a RaQ3 (I also have lots of "straight" Intel
Linux systems), I decided to try to help (heck, it's 5:30 am and I can't
get back to sleep <smile>)...
See below...

I presume you're talking about "name-based" sites. Meaning they will all
share one IP number. Is that correct?
users and even figured out that I can
use a .forward in the user's directory to send mail to more than one person
per userID
How are you doing this? Do you have more than one user listed in the
forward box? If you have only one forward listed in the user box, then
only one person should get the mail. On the RaQ2, the RaQ3, on any linux
(or unix) system, in fact. All that happens when you fill something into
the "Forward Email To" field is the RaQ web-administration system adds it
to the /etc/aliases file in the format:
username: forwardedtoname
So, using this feature, only one person should get the email. When I try
to add multiple addresses into this field,
i.e.: "me@xxxxxxxxxxxx,me@xxxxxxxxxxx" (without the quotes of course) the
RaQ won't accept such multiple entries <frown>.
I actually do this on my RaQ2, and this IS what happens: when I set
"me@xxxxxxxxxxx" into the field, only the "me" account at Hotmail gets the
email; "username" doesn't. Which is as it should be. This is totally
independent of whether your site is name-based or not; sendmail, the
mail-server doesn't understand or care about the concept of virtual domains
(really; it's all done with smoke, and mirrors).
This is not documented anywhere that I could find.. I did find
where it would work on the RaQ2.. but not specifically on the RaQ3..
Where did you find this documented for the RaQ2? The RaQ2 and RaQ3 should
work exactly the same in this respect; this is unix/sendmail behavior.
Can anyone suggest any deep reading material here?? the PDF manual is
lacking IMHO
Now.. my problem at this point.. 2 of them that are driving me nuts..
1- users placed on vacation disappear from my users lists..
2- sub-directories in any of the sites can NOT be accessed without the
trailing / in the URL
Both of these situations are a problem and concern to me..
1- created new user, clicked the blue modify envelope and since I want to
see a copy of this mail, placed my email address in the Forward box. Tested
the email address using the @[IP#] as suggested in the docs. The mail shows
up where it is supposed to.
In my actual use on a RaQ2, the mail would ONLY show up in my email
address, not in the user's box at all. Just tested it. That's the way it
works.
Click the blue modify again and turn on the vacation response and send
another email to the same address. I received the mail, but the "senders"
copy of the mail never showed up..
Not sure what you mean. I've never used the "vacation" function before,
but I just tried it, and my copy showed up. Also, the original user's
mailbox got a copy, which does NOT happen, and should not happen, when
vacation is NOT checked. This is the first time this user's mailbox has
EVER gotten anything in it (I can tell from a datestamp history) since it
was created.
When I check the /etc/aliases file to see what's happening, the vacation
checkbox has changed a line to the /etc/aliases file; it's turned
username: forwardedtoname@xxxxxxxxxx
to:
username: "|/usr/local/sbin/vacation.pl /var/vacation/username.msg
username@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx", \username, forwardedtoname@xxxxxxxxxx
(the above all on one line). So what it has done is to add a perl program
(/usr/local/sbin/vacation.pl) to the aliases; that's the program that sends
the vacation message AND it's added the "username". Strange behavior, and
I don't like it adding username (I don't like the username mailbox filling
up, since I don't ever check mail there) but at least understandable if not
reasonable.
I exited my admin pages. I even exited my browser.
I restarted my browser, re-logged-on to my admin pages.
The user is still there, his "vacation" field is still checked. The
/etc/aliases file is still as above.
So uncheck the "vacation" field, and save changes.
Everything's back as before. Only "username: forwardedtoname@xxxxxxxxxx"
in my /etc/aliases file.
worse yet .. when I went back in to the
user list to check my work.. the user set to vacation is not listed there..
This does NOT happen to me.
where did he go?? <on vacation.. I know that !> but what do I do now??? I
can't reactivate this user when he returns from his vacation.. or change
the vacation response or anything.. since he's not listed in the user
screen.. now what???
This is anomalous behavior. It shouldn't be able to happen. Without root
access to your system I can't even begin to figure out what did in fact
happen. I'd have to say that if the RaQ3's web-based interface is doing
that, it's "broken". Do you rent the RaQ from Sage? If so, their tech
support must help you with that. If you bought it, then Cobalt Tech
support must help you with this.
2- is pretty much self explaintory..
if you attempt to access:
209.196.37.202/nailite
you get a 404 error
if you then add the trailing slash:
209.196.37.202/nailite/
This is a combination of both redirection set in apache and a missing DNS
record. To what domain does "209.196.37.202" point to as its main domain
on this RaQ3?
I'm getting a redirect from "209.196.37.202/nailite" to
"admin.beautytech.com" which isn't working because there's NO DNS for
"admin.beautytech.com". This appears to be a DNS issue that's not
resolvable (given your apache configuration, which most likely is Cobalt
RaQ3 standard) until DNS is working and can resolve
"admin.beautytech.com". Once DNS is working, the rest should fall into place.
The "contest" subdomain in your sig seems to work fine, but I see that it's
hosted on another system.
