Pacbell's new basic DSL package is using a piece of software (EnterNet 300) to provide PPP over EtherNet. It's using PPP to assign dynamic IP addresses (I assume) I'm just starting to look into what will be required for the Qube2 to masquerade under these circumstances. I've seen the knowledge-base entry for configuring the Qube2 under DHCP, and I'm starting to wade through the FAQ's on IP/VPN masquerading and PPPoE.
I just got my Qube2 two days ago, and it appears to me that it can function the same way that SyGate works, but it doesn't have the 4 IP limitation - that is to day I plug one ethernet port into the DSL line and my in-house network to the other one, and everything can access the internet
I haven't tried this yet as I have the enhanced package with 5 IP's = but if it turns out I can go back to the standard one by using the Qube I sure will. The enhanced package costs $30 a monthmore and I don't get any more bandwidth, just more IP's.
