Hello, All!
I was wondering if is a way to add/remove pop3/imap mailboxes without
creating an entire user?
Not using the POP3 standards, since they specifically create a "user"
mailbox. A mailbox in unix is a user. Plain and simple.
However, you CAN do it, and it has been done.
You probably won't though. It's an awful lot of work. I've seen
references to programs that offer this functionality. They use their own
directory trees for mailboxes, they use their own authentication system or
let you use your own (you can use the same mysql database you're using to
authenticate radius dialup login, if that's your environment). They also
require changes to sendmail so it'll deliver to those local boxes.
This is why I recently asked about disabling site maintenance for site-owners.
(It's much easier to do under NT, where everything is built from scratch,
but most NT MTAs [including ours] don't do it either.)
