I believe that the average uptime that I have on my Linux machines is
several times this length of time, with minimal maintainance.

But it really depends on the traffic, the amount of and quality of the CGI,
PHP, and other scripts running on there. Depends on if you are running
'unstable' software (such as the PHP4b3 stuff, etc.).

But I can say that if you are running a low-moderate traffic site with
low-moderate amount of solid CGI scripts all on out of the box software, you
shouldn't have a problem.

What MAY be a problem is (especially this time of year) is if you don't have
adequate power protection. I can't stress this enough, because it is bar
none the most likely to cause a catastrophic hardware failure, or a
corrupted file system. A $500-$600 investment in a 1000VA high quality UPS
(I highly recommend those from Alpha Technologies--you'll pay a premium
usually, but its worth it) will keep your Raq2, Hub/Switch, Router and
CSU/DSU running for HOURS.

Another thing you can't really rely on for that period of time is the phone
company and (hopefully not, tho) your ISP. The phone company can flake out
and leave you in the cold.

I hope this is just a hypothetical, and not a "See ya! I going to Tahiti!"
type question.

Heh.
