Hi Gary,
I'm not sure if I can help you, but I'll give my best:
Are you sure, your problems have nothing to do with a DNS-Problem? You

You got a "Name Server timeout". What happened? I suggest, that sendmail
startet to look for the MX record of www-hosting.net in the nameservers
listed in your network-preference. I don't know, if your using your own
DNS, or if your using your ISPs one. You wrote:
As of now, doing a
tracert and ping to my site, i am getting about 20-50%
packet loss on bbnplanet.net, but i figure the
mailserver should be delivering the mail regardless of
the backbone from me to it <snip>
So... I guess again, that you use your ISPs nameserver - and as you got
a lot of packet loss, maybe your ISP just has some bad problems with his
nameservers, so sendmail cannot resolve the MX (=mailserver in charge
for domain) record for www-hosting.net what ends in the mail server time
out error you get.
The fact, that you have 100 emails queued that are adressed to different
domains maybe also comes from the missing DNS.
Try the following:
- telnet into your raq. Start "nslookup". Nslookup gives you the default
nameserver. Enter some domains. Does the nameserver give answers, or do
you get a timeout? By entering "server 195.185.185.195" you change the
nameserver you'll query. Does this change anything?
- change your nameserver settings to, e.g. 195.185.185.195. This DNS is
working fine, so at least the mails to the external domains should be
delivered out of the queue.
- enter pine or mail or whatever and send an email to a LOCAL user. e.g.
to "admin" not to admin@something. If you get the mail sendmail is
working.
- if your using your RaQs DNS, make sure it's entered in the RaQs
Networksettings.
- try the nslookup-thing from a remote machine to test your raqs-DNS.
- did you already try to restart sendmail? Maybe it's screwed up...
I hope you & the list can find a solution by finding answers to my
questions.
Good Luck,
Niko
