I agree, It would indeed be nice if we had full time staff explicitly to
monitor and answer technical questions on this list of how the Cobalt
customizations interact with Linux so that those of you new and not so new
to Linux would understand where you might get into trouble when customizing.
This is quite obviously to me a customer expectation, no matter what the
Cobalt corporate line is on the matter.
I think part of the issue is that nobody apart from the particular engineer
writing the particular code would really know how a change might affect that
part of a Cobalt box, or someone willing to experiment or "read the source,
Luke". However, the ray of hope that I can offer is that the question "How
can users make the customizations they need to make without interfering with
the Cobalt GUI?" is well within our design space. That doesn't help the
reverse direction of how to use the products that have already been
released, however.
Please, keep asking the good questions. Speaking for myself, I'll answer
what I can and do my best to dig up answers for the rest.
