Actually, that's all that's needed...

A secondary sendmail server just requeues the email until your primary
server comes on-line again.

Well, I desagree with this. Yes if you just have some minor problem, but I am looking to see where and how to program the backup server to example try to send the mail back to the mail server every 3 hours for example and do this for 5 days and if after 5 days it is not getting there it can assume that the mail would not be deliverable. That kind of things.

It is true that you just need an MX record to create any amount of backup servers, but where do we configure the rest of it.
