I *don't* have a RaQ3i, but on the RaQ2's we found the web interface rewrote
the httpd.conf file everytime you did anything (unlike the RaQ1's) so you
couldn't really do custom changes.
I prefer to use telnet and manually do stuff most of the time, although for
customer websites etc I'll use the GUI - That's why we bought the RaQ2 - For
customers.
However there are sites which we just run on the server which I DON'T need
special things setup for, ie users, e-mail and all that and even then you
can do that manually (be careful with quotas though as the Cobalt monitor
sometimes goes a bit nuts if you overquota a user not in it's datafiles and
e-mails everyone on the server!). Anyway- To manually edit httpd.conf on
RaQ2 we add the following line above the <VirtualHost> directives and it
doesn't get deleted:
Include /etc/httpd/conf/extra.conf
Create extra.conf (or another file) and put the rest of your Apache
configuration (you can even redefine the same sites again if you wish, but
be careful there!) into that file <VirtualHost's etc>
Adding e-mail such as virtual aliases etc is a piece of cake too. The
virtusertable file allows customs change right at the bottom - Just remember
to rehash it:
makemap hash /etc/virtusertable < /etc/virtusertable
And you can edit sendmail.cw for local domains etc as well so the RaQ is
quite flexible for custom changes I've found.
No offence, but if your RaQ3i is JUST for one large site, I feel it might be
an idea to look at just a general linux machine as the features of the RaQ
are surely going to waste? But that's just my opinion and I don't fully know
your situation.
Again please remember I do not have a RaQ3 so these may not apply!

We just got a Raq3i, and I've been assigned to essentially administer
the server. It'll be a web server for a single large site.
Are many people forgoing the web interface in favor of using telnet and
unix tools? I'm more comfortable with editing the httpd.conf myself,
etc....
