Not sure I know what you mean as to setting up sites as admin. Do you mean
you never set up a user, but just went ahead and created the site using
your admin password?
Then, after that, do you go in under telnet and change user rights?
I haven't checked the ownership of the files, but I'm sure
that's probably it.
"Sure" and "probably" in the same sentence <smile>. So we're hedging our
bets, are we <grin>? That's okay, though; I like the idea <smile, again>!
On one site I have been able to upload some existing
changed .html files, but not new files unless logged in as a site admin
user.
Yes, it does sound like a rights issue.
So, I just make individual users for each site I maintain. dan1, dan2,
etc all using the same password keeps it easy. As long as I remember the
site#, I'm all set.
I've always done this. I set it as a default "catchall" for email. We use
a numeric series, too. Starting with a machine representation, and
expanded to eight characters. For example, the machine representation for
the RaQ I just got is "c1" (it's the first machine I've got at colocation
"c" [my third colocation point]), so the eighth site I set up on the box
will have a user with a "Real Name" of "Catchall" and a username/login of
"c1000008". Yes, I use the same password for all of them, but it is NOT
the same as my admin or root passwords for the box.
