Zeffie,No flame, but I, as a Raq 4 user, I should be pleased to put the effort is in http://open.cobaltqube.org (when this is the lead). From my point of position, the RAQ 4 is super BUT somewhere this or next year this server will be replaced by a more powerfull server as I am saying this as a home user from a mid-size online F1 game server(!). So from that point of prospective I prefere a new standard software package at the moment I decide to choose an other server.
Conclussion: RAQ 4 will be exit inside two years by the community. The reasons are: 1. Support and 2. the need for more updated software pakages. (No flame again, these are real-live business reasons). When there are no new update or upgrades, everybody will run away from this machine. From business reasons, in this/my case, I should have been replaced this machine whiile I am writing this mail because this RAQ 4 is End Of Live from business prespective(!).
To be quite fair with you. At this moment I will not upgrade my server with your packages while I don't know or::
1. I am now aware or all packages are 100% working (#1), 2. What the (free) support is when something is not working (#1), 3. I am now aware about the support in the future.Even as you garantee free support, I will not upgrade and wait till my server needs to be renewes and hope that http://open.cobaltqube.org has a workable solution. (Other wise I will spend a lot of time to choose a new winning team)
#1 = .. my point: The support from Cobalt was excellent, still free, but I can not expect this sort of maintenance from you. And I am aware I could buy this service at yours, but that is a decission you make. Once I had a problem with my server and the server was gone, but inside one hour I had a very usefull reply using this maillist. I don't also want to depend on one peron.
About my RAQ4... it is a fine machine and I am proud to work with it for my hobby ------ Hobby,(?) At my work they ask me frequently why my server is more stable then there shitty servers. ------. I can put my effort in my Formula 1 game without making any doubts about problems at all about my system. I love the RAQ4, but somewhere this, next or the year after I expect to move to an other machine.
And the above is as I think about this issue. From that point of prespective I think that http://open.cobaltqube.org has the best cards as being the next generation package. So far I can compare the other packages there is not yet a real next generation and we will need it. Is it not this year, then next year.....

When I woke up yesterday for some reason I couldn't help but feel it was time to just "throw in the towel" on the idea of there ever being a "cobalt users group" of people that work together to build a better server... and instead to just be commercial like almost everyone here... My Programmer (That kid from aol which many of you laughed at) is working on a family. I have current apache, 'apache-ssl', mod-ssl, imap, (replaces qpopper too) bind 9, /usr/bin/perl (5.8)... an updated glibc... I have hundreds of rpms for raq2, raq3 (raq3 sucks) raq4, xtr, qube3, 550 and even some really old stuff... I've been building it all for years and I have been planning on doing something... I have the following domains... I was thinking this would be the main home http://www.cobaltupdates.com/ I was thinking this could be a Bluelinq for 550 and maybe the XTR and QUBE3 http://www.cobaltbluelinq.com/ and for the user group to go with it http://www.cobaltuserslist.com/ and I have a server and bandwidth ready to go with good speed.... I honestly I get the feeling that if I don't build it nobody will. with the other work I have seen over the years it will do a better job of removing the money from your pocket then giving you a good product. I was planning on making this free but at this time I don't know... The last build was hard on the Zeffie body... and my employee needs a good job he can raise a family on...
