Wait a second. So the 3rd party PHP you have installed was indeed deliverd a
PKG file. From the numbering it appears to be a PKGmaster.com package file.
To bring your Apache up and running into the same state as it was before you
should grab the PHP-4.1.2-3.pkg from this URL and install it:
Link to the download page:
http://pkgmaster.com/packages/raq/4/
Direct link to the PKG:
http://pkgmaster.com/i386/RaQ4-PHP-4.1.2-3.pkg
In order to get a newer PHP you can either order the installation service from
one of the various Sun Cobalt cunsultants which offer this kind of service,
or you can of course build a newer PHP on your own from the sources. That's
up to you.
