First let me briefly introduce myself. I am the "computer guy" for a
nonprofit organization called LPA (lpaonline.org). I am not a "guru" by
any means, but I guess in the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.
In the past I've fumbled my way through Red Hat Linux with some success,
but I'm getting worried about this new Cobalt RaQ 550 I'm working with.
I am wanting to install some other Linux-based third party software onto
it. The software depends on certain packages (PHP, MySQL, Apache, and
related devel packages, etc.) being installed, but I think a number of the
packages on the RaQ-550 are not up to the right versions.
But the more I search and read various tidbits on the web, the more
confused and scared I get as to what I need to do to upgrade some of these
packages!
Can I use RPM to upgrade? If I upgrade PHP will I break the Cobalt admin
interface? What is the right procedure for upgrading? Help me Spock.
