PHP isn't GNU.  Even if it were you have misinterpreted the meaning of
"free" as it pertains to GNU software.  Read the GPL again. It says,
"When we speak of free software, we are referring to freedom, not
price."

I personally think that people who put hard work into a project and
produce a good, useful application deserve to be financially rewarded
for their efforts.

Designing a package like this takes many hours, so if your time is worth
$3 per hour to you, I'm sure you can get a bargain by doing it yourself.
However if you feel your time is more valuable you may want to "stand on
the backs of giants" and avoid the duplication of effort.
