yeah, better do that. You need the proper tools for that job. There are 
special "tips" for soldering irons available which have the shape of the chip 
and allow you to apply heat to all the pins at the same time.

Those tips aren't that expensive, even if you have to buy a matching soldering 
iron. A good electronic reseller should have 'em.
