Thank you to all that have responded so far. Let me
answer a couple of other points that have been brought
up.
Gerald:
The primary domain tied to the server is wrenbeck.com.
I am also hosting a couple of other sites including
planetcycle.com
I am using the DNS services provided by register,
dns11.register.com and dns12.register.com. I know that
something is not correct, but I don't know what, hence
my posting on this mail list. Somewhere between the
configuration of the router and the raq3.
Gerald/David:
My MX records on register used to point to a server
named "eww.wrenbeck.com", which was the name of my
nt/domino mail server. I removed that reference when I
put the raq up. Mail was working until a few days ago.
Does my raq need an mx record in its dns task that
points to itself?
Thanks again, Ed.
My original posting:
*****************************************
Hello all,
Disclaimer: I am new to the world of Cobalt and
Linux/UNIX in general, so please excuse any
demonstrated stupidity.
I am having a problem with Sendmail on my Raq3.
Everything was working great until a recent power
loss/dsl loss. (I live in a new sub) The server had
been up and running for more than a month prior to
that. One concern that I have is that I may have
changed a configuration a while ago that did not take
effect until the reboot.
After the power loss, the server came back up on its
own, with the dsl still out. After dsl service was
restored, the server was not accepting email or
serving pages. I rebooted the server again, and it now
is serving fine, but mail is still broken.
When sending mail into the server, I get the following
error:
Connected to 216.36.86.161 but sender was rejected.
Remote host said: 501 <edwrenbeck@xxxxxxxxx>... Sender
domain must
exist
When sending mail out from the server, I get this
message:
550 <edwrenbeck@xxxxxxxxx>... Host unknown (Name
server: yahoo.com: no data
When I try to download my pop mail, I don't receive
any errors. I just don't get any messages of course,
since nobody can email me. I verified that the pop
connection is working by sending an internal email and
then downloading it through my pop client.
My configuration is this:
DSL Router to internet on static ip address. router
acting as NAT device, routing typical web port traffic
to raq3 (ports 80, 443, 21, 23, 25, 110). Raq3 has
static internal address.
My domains are registered through register.com
I have two A record entries, mydomain.com and
www.mydomain.com pointed at my static ip. I got rid of
the cname records and mx records after migrating off
my nt/domino mail server. This solved my first problem
with getting mail routing to work a month ago.
The raq is currently not running the dns server task,
although I've tried it both ways in an attempt to get
this working. The email task has the domain names in
the "relay hosts" field and www.domain.com in the
"host/alias" field. The "relay hosts" field also
contains the internal ip of the raq, and the external
ip address. There is nothing in the "reject" field.
Sorry if this message is long, but I'm hoping to give
a clear picture of my environment.
Thank you in advance for any assistance you may be
able to provide.
Ed Wrenbeck
