The problem with the pkg.nl.cobalt.com site was that a large
number of people were downloading software without noticing
the "unsupported software" disclaimer.
Old time Cobalt developers are aware of the concept of open
source and the difference between the latest and greatest and
supported distributions.
We have a much higher visability as part of Sun, and newer
customers were downloading from the NL site and calling for
support problems. The typical phrase was:
"I got it from Cobalt.com, so what do you mean it
isn't supported."
This is not part of a sinister plan to reduce our quality.
Rather it is part of a plan to address user expectations like
the one above. Our hope is that sophisticated users will not
notice any change except for the URL.
