Look like the kernel was compiled without support for elf binaries.
You will need to compile and add elf support along with a.out if needed.
I assume you were using a pkg to upgrade the kernel, so not sure how you
can resolve, unless the source is available with a configurable make
file like Red Hat and other dist.

Just a note. This site is not Sun/Cobalt.
As per usual - Using an upgrade from here is done at your own risk. No
Sun/Cobalt support.
Fortunately, the upgrade went seamlessly through.
I was able to reboot without any problem. However,
there is one issue that I couldn't resolve yet
which has to do with loading kernel modules. When
I run /sbin/depmod -a I get the following error
message:
depmod: error reading ELF header: No such file or directory
depmod: not an ELF file
depmod: error reading ELF header: No such file or directory
depmod: not an ELF file
It looks like a configuration matter, but I'm not
sure which files to edit in order to fix it.
