Tim, I dont mean to be a bummer here but...
There should be no reason to upgrade to future products to get better
software functionality.
If you really wanted to make the "Control Panel" better then you should ask
some of us that are active/very active in the develpoer forums, or even
setup an intive only forum.
Ast it is now, I am about 1 to 2 months from totally stopping the admserv
all together.
But I am a crew of one, and can only dedicate so much time a day to my own
"control panel" solution.
I will list the following to open the "debate":
NUMBER ONE on my list- The ability to add directives to certain config files
with out them getting wiped when the WebGUI gets used. (httpd.conf gets
fully rewritten !!! so all my manual tweaks get wiped after I add/change
site info. BUT The GLOBAL area of the ftpd.conf does not get touched... go
figure!)
2 The ability to turn off web access of /~users (this would also shut off
the users/NAME/web area as well)
3 Based on #2 - the ability to give users email only accounts with out
having tp give them FTP login at all
4 Per site MySql DB creation/usermanagement
5 Per site MySql dumps/backup (yes I know you can easily do this on your
own, but built in would make make things much easier for the users.)
6 SURPRISE the web gui backup does not include your DB so it hasnt been
backed up for the last 6 months, sorry you are leaving my web-host all
pissed off and ready to sue me! Sorry to all your clients that now will
leave your services behind in the dust! (This happened to me! But only
once, now I write a nice cronjob that does a dump every night into the users
directory tree!)
7 The ability to add "plug in" buttons on the left side of the users control
panel, these buttons would be simple links to our own pages with scripts we
could add ourselves.
This would make it easier for you to allow us to add in our own functions to
the control panel without being intrusive into the cobalt control panel.
I included these rather trivial things (in my opinion) that could be added
with just a few days to a week of development time (including #7).
And they should be included with The Cube3/RaQ4 line with out having to
upgrade to new hardware.
