I am using Neomail with an SSL connection myself without any problems. If
you don't have SSL for your own virtual site, you can use another SSL site
on the same RaQ, you just have to be sure not to use the prefs.

It will hold the virtual hostsname as long as you don't save the
preferences. It will however display the hosts name when you check the
preferences, because you 'officially' are supposed to use you own virtual
site.

about the rest of the problems. I haven't encountered any problems.
