There are several options I found involving PHP and MySQL as well as
PHP_AUTH_USER
you may want to look into

(I have also compiled about 15 links to different PHP user auth. scripts if
anybody is interested in them please feel free to email me.
This website is my "little secret" when it comes to great scripts.
There are free as well as paid commercial scripts, so you get a good listing
oy several script panguages as well.
