Please respond directly to me if you have insight into how one might
get Xfree86 to work on a display attached to a Cobalt box...
I know it isn't supported... but I also know it'll work if I can get
past this one issue...

I have a Cobalt Cube 3, a headless "appliance". It has a PCI slot,
however, and I installed an ATI XPERT128 PCI card (16MB).
It does not support a keyboard or mouse. This is a Linux box
that is intended to be more of a frontend "firewall/server" machine
that is web administered. But I need a display for a particular
usage - which will display digital images as controlled by a process
running on the box.
I loaded the latest 4.1.0 Xfree86 binaries, based on the suggestion
of "Xinstall.sh -check". Ran thru the xf86config menus. And
tried to "startx". But it fails due to no /dev/tty0. I tried to point tty0
to /dev/pts/0 to fake it out, and tried to comment out the Keyboard
and Mouse entries in XF86Config, but no luck.
Any idea how to get Xfree86 to work on a system with a
video card but no keyboard or mouse???
Here is the "Xinstall.sh -check" output:
===============================
[root /tmp]# sh Xinstall.sh -check
Checking which OS you're running...
uname reports 'Linux' version '2.2.16C7', architecture 'i586'.
Object format is 'ELF'. libc version is '6.1.3' (6.1).
Binary distribution name is 'Linux-ix86-glibc21'
Here is the "startx" output:

If the server is older than 6-12 months, or if your card is
newer than the above date, look for a newer version before
reporting problems. (See http://www.XFree86.Org/FAQ)
