is a "Red Hat Port" according to a page in the knowledgebase. I suppose
there is a package manager other than the GUI, which I'm told only handles
*.pkg files.
Has Debian's apt package ever been ported to non-Debian Linux?
RPM is installed on the Cobalts, so you can install them directly from the
command prompt as you would on any box. PKGs themselves are just bundles of
RPMs or tarballs that the GUI unpacks and installs for you automatically.
If you want to install RPMs, you may want to consider creating your own
PKGs, and then installing them through the GUI - it tends to be an easier
way of tracking what you've got on the server. Search on the Knowledge base
for "creating PKGs"
Actually, I suggest you look at the Tech Notes in the Cobalt
Developer network for
the most complete and up-to-date information on creating .pkg files.
There are separate
Tech Notes for each Cobalt product family.
if you are already signed up as a member of the free Cobalt Developer
Network, you can go
straight to the URL http://developer.cobalt.com/devnet/technotes.php.
