Troy,
We are currently migrating from ASP to JSP. We are using JRun 3 Enterprise Edition, for our
Java Application server, and connected to Apache 1.3.12 on our Cobalt RaQ 4r. We also use UltraDev,
and ran into the same problems with ChiliSoft as you did. Luckily we already made the decision to
switch to JSP. So now using the InterClient 2.0 JDBC driver for IB, and IB 6 SS ( I would imagine
the Classic edition would work as well.), from UltraDev we can connect to the sever, and view the
tables and such the way UltraDev was intended to work. Although we have found numerous syntax
problems with the JSP code that was generated, and just have not had time to write our own version
yet.
UltraDev's drop in code is great for the beginner. But in order to fix the MM code, you have to
think the way MM did. I find it easier, just to write my own code, that way when you run into
errors, its easier to understand the problem. JSP is still a back burner project for us. We do not
have to much faith in the HTML days, and have put our eggs into the Flash basket, via Generator.
One day, once our Flash site is complete and we are bored, we will pick up again on the JSP site. I
do have some other projects I will most likely hand code with ASP, since its a no brainner, but
makes little use of UltraDev 4. I just may decide not to go the path of least resistance and do the
projects using JSP, but I imagine I will write some code of our own.
Since we have not spent a whole lot of time diagnosing this problem, it may be no fault at all of
UltraDev (the bad code), but be the fault of JRun or the JRE/JDK, that we are using with JRun. We
are still new to the Java world, but won't be for long.
Hope that helps, good luck.
Sincerely,
William L. Thomson Jr.
