[cobalt-developers] Re: Defending Cobalt (was Re: SMTP relaying on Cobalt)

Hy together,

i read this message and would like to say some things about my experiences with
cobalt and why i buy "real" sun's in future.

1. I read the warranty card (after i bought a box) and it's in some points ok
for a server appliance.

2. I've talked at Cebit with two people from Cobalt. 1 technican and one person
who I think was a salesman. I've talked with them about the problems cobalt's
have and the technican agreed that some points are not the best but cobalt is
learning.

3. I've asked them about the security problems and they argued that 36 hours
after the problem in bind was recognized an update was ready to download at
ftp.cobalt.com. I could not validate this but perhaps its true !?!?!?

4. I've asked them why there are problems installing some packages. They say
that there was a wrong package template and they does not found it out fast
enough. I could not validate this but perhaps its true too!?!?!?

5. The new RaQ XTR has some nice features which where long time wished by the
mailinglist. (webmail, automatic dns setup, automatic Patch installation via
scheduler (BlueLinq)....) I think cobalt is really learning.

Now you're guys thinking : "Cool Cobalt Salesman are great they have another
happy customer !" No they have not. Now you're asking why !?!?! And im
answering : "Because the cobalt salesman said to me that the Cobalt Mailinglists
are not representative for the whole spectrum of about 110.000 installed Cobalt
Systems." And i think if a Company does not accept every customer as an
important customer it's not a good company. So i will go to big Sun (i've made
better experiences with them) and buy Netra X1 Servers. I had to install the
needed software by hand, but i can live with that.

I wish you all a good day !

Olly

P.S. I will not give away my Raq. I try to make it work better ! :-)
P.P.S. I hope my english was understandable
