I would be careful with Flare Networks,
We hired them to install Generator 2 onto a RaQ4r. They said they had done it before, and would
take two hours. After a month they decided not to charge me, and after two months they gave up, and
Generator still does not work. They left a mess in my file system, and for some reason I no longer
have a analog file in my /usr/local/sbin
or its configuration file. According to Flare, it should have been taken care of with a Cobalt OS
patch/update, but that was not the case. The missing file is not that big of a deal, except the
Cobalt web, email, and ftp statistics no longer function properly. Its been months since a report
has been displayed. Its a good thing we install Urchin 3, as soon as we got the server, so we are
not completely statisticless.
Its seems their biggest problem was in getting JRun to work with apache. I am glad to see that they
are contributing to the cobalt pkg world, but hopefully their pkg will be more reliable than the
work they performed for us.
As a side note, if any one has any info on our missing analog file, please let us know ASAP. Or if
someone could email us one from a RaQ4r so I can attempt to just replace it. I think the
analog.conf file is missing as well, but I am pretty sure it is in another directory.
In case anyone cares, I have installed Generator myself using JRun 3 instead of the default JRun
that comes with Generator, and just need to compile the jrun module in -DEAP format for apache, or
something like that. Can anyone give me a few pointers. Haven't compiled to many things yet, still
new to the concept.
Anyway now that Generator has been taken care of I can begin to remove InterBase 6 CS and install SS
instead. I will post results to the group if anyone cares.
To the rest, Cobalt, and pkg on.
Sincerely,
William L. Thomson Jr.
