[cobalt-developers] Interbase vs. MySQL

Hey folks,

I've just joined the Cobalt Developer network. I'm finishing up the
development of GroupIT v1.00, our turnkey group collaboration / online
community engine and I'm hot on getting complete RAQ support into this
version.

I have some questions and would be beholden were some of you to offer up
answers!

1. Is a RAQ deployed with Apache statically linked, or does it use DSO?

2. Presently, we support Linux / Apache / PHP / MySQL. Now, I understand RAQ
is hot on Interbase, for whatever reason. Has anyone else worked with a MySQL
-> Interbase port? Are there pitfalls to avoid before I begin?

3. Are RAQs PHP capable out of the box? PHP is a no-brainer to install
on a vanilla Linux server, but I've never dug into a RAQ to find out how one
is configured, so there may be issues to address here. Visit www.php.net and
www.phpbuilder.com if this is the first time you've heard about PHP. It will
change your life.

4. We're preparing to offer a subscription-based license for our technology
(to be paid monthly, quarterly or annually at the discretion of the
subscriber). Has anyone else begun experimenting with this model? Success?
Failure? I think it gels perfectly with our technology, but I'd love your
input.

GroupIT is at version 0.95.0 right now, and the first release candidate for
1.00 will be out in November. Only one month from it's debut, v0.90+ has been
downloaded 3,000+ times and it's since been translated into 3 languages by
non-commercial users. I hope to have RAQ support in RC1, so if you're looking
for a solid group collaboration tool that you won't have to sell your mother
to afford then you might want to stop by www.groupit.org.

All the best,

Sean.
