[cobalt-developers] Upgrading software

Is there any reason, or does anyone have any comments on upgrading the
software on a RaQ3?  The reason I ask is that some of the software is
fairly dated, and known to have a number of security holes, for
instance, the installed version of qpopper, 2.53 has been outdated by
3.1, now available.  ProFTPD 1.2.0pre8 has now been superseded by
1.2.0rc2.  Is it easy to update these programs (and others)?  Do I
simply compile the new version and copy the binaries over the current
ones?
