Re: [cobalt-developers] Spread of Directory share on multiple servers

NFS is best from the sound of your application, but short of that, you can do secure copying with rcp (man rcp). You can also do the same thing from Perl (grab yourself the File::remote mod from CPAN) where you can copy clear or encrypted. If your routers keep things on your own LAN, behind your firewall, then maybe you don't need encryption anyhow, assuming your systems are on the same LAN.

Unfortunately, I haven't managed to get rcp working, even though I checked the rpm's on our system and everything seems to be there. I called Cobalt last night and they didn't know why either. I'm determined its gonna work though!

Maybe you'll have better luck. rcp is a lot easier to implement than NFS (but nearly as flexible). Well, at least on the dozens of other systems I've used it, it was easier.

It may just be the ticket for you though, assuming you have better luck than me

Hi,

Can anyone point me in the right direction, article, pit fall warning advise
or suggestions.

I am trying to mount drive from one server to about a 12 other servers
spread at various locations.

Basically, I need to make file transfer, copy, etc to various directory but
I thought or mounting and so far for what I read, there is big warning about
security of that and I thought of FTP, but this is worst.

May be the mount solutions is the best, but some guide line would be
welcome.

Obviously, I need some help, or suggestion on this issue and I am hoping
someone can put some light on this for me.

Advise please would be welcome.

Daniel Ouellet
