Carlo,
You are not behind a firewall that drops/denies packets to port 23, are you?
I would try using the console port with a serial lead. Don't believe to
what the original manual sais about the 9600baud crap, just set it to 115200
and it will work fine.
If logging as admin still doesn't work try another user with telnet
access then su.
Have you tried ringig the cobalt support guys in netherlands?

They are very good at it. Usually they ask you what kind of upgrades you
have, some more questions about your system and if they cannot help you
out by phone they might ask you to have access to your RaQ.
Have you tried filling the cobalt support email form
( http://www.cobalt.com/support/help.php3 )
Usually it takes some time before they reply, but this is an authoritatve
source.
