I have seen delay issues when a Samba server and a Windows machine have
contention over who is the browsing "master" on the network. Every time
a share is looked up, the 2 machines basically fight over who has more
correct information and is "in charge" for user authentication and
stuff.

To avoid the contention, I generally change the "os level" of the Samba
server usually) to a higher number, forcing it to be the master in any
conflicts.
