just for the archives... on some systems "reboot" will do just that and
perhaps leave you in fsck land. Most systems these days however require
"reboot -f" for the hard reboot. Myself I get the feeling this is a result
of windows adding the word "reboot" to everybodys language... :)

/sbin/shutdown -r now
halt
/sbin/shutdown -h now
