Or just try turning all your account rules off and try that!

I would bet account rules are the problem.
If you set all mail coming from an account to be MOVED to a folder but also
have another rule saying anything with <some text> in the subject line MOVE
to a folder. The dumb program 'MOVES' the original message to both folders.
I always thought you could only move a file once and after that it became a
copy operation!!
