Why 4i/r, you do know that a 3/i is the same hardware don't you.
The only difference between a RaQ3x and a RaQ4x is the CPU, in that the
RaQ3x has a 300MHz CPU and the RaQ4x has a 450MHz CPU.

When cobalt came out with the RaQ4x, all they did was use a 450MHz CPU in
a RaQ3, change the name on the front from RaQ3 to RaQ4, and put a
different label on the back.

So, a 500MHz RaQ3 is actually better than a RaQ4.

No, didn't realise the RaQ3 was the same thing as a RaQ4. In that case...does anyone know of anybody that can supply second hand RaQ3's or RaQ4's in Australia?

Please be careful!:
---------------------------
1) Yes, the hardware is very similar and the default CPU in the RaQ4 is faster. 2) The software on the RaQ4 is actually newer and is still being supported (third-party).
3) The software on the RaQ3 is older and much more difficult to update
4) The RaQ3 can be updated to run RaQ4 software and the CPU can be updated (but not always).
5) The RaQ3 upgrade is not for the faint at heart and requires a BIOS upgrade.

Why would anyone upgrade the CPU on the RAQ3 and not upgrade the software?

That said, I still use RaQ3s. Just thought you needed better information!

?

Upgrade the CPU, put 768Mb or 1024Mb of RAM in the RAQ3i and load it with RAQ4 OS and you have a great machine for only a few hundred US. Put new fans, battery and hard drive in it, and you are good for a nice long while. If that's what you're after, you can save the trouble of sourcing all of this by buying from Gerald at RAQWare.com - http://store.raqware.com. His machines all come with new batteries, fans etc, and you can choose between a used or new drive.
