I just tried to wget a file and I got a resolving failed: host not found
message. Then I tried some basic internet pings with unknown host errors.
I think the last time I used wget was in early December. In October I
started getting errors about "no resolv.conf.5 file or directory", and I
don't know if that is related or what would have made that start. (I
fixed it thanks to the archives). This raq is an email/web server and
seems to be working ok otherwise. It is natted behind a firewall.
The domain is with register.com and is using their dns servers to point
to nomealaska.org. Our ISP is www.gci.net and I have the raq, under
Control Panel/Network pointing to gci.net DNS servers. (Could this be
the error?) GCI does host another domain we have and hosts email for
that domain, (ci.nome.ak.us) but it doesn't have anything to do with the
Raq I don't believe. I don't have the DNS server enabled under Control
Panel/Services.
I'm not sure what would have made it quit working as it has worked for a
couple years, nearly. Our ISP did change it's DNS servers and had
recommended anyone change their settings if hard coded to their old DNS.
So I did that a few weeks ago - using the DNS numbers that show up under
www.dnsreports.com for gci.net.
I've been reading the man docs for hosts, resolv.conf, etc., but haven't
had the lightbulb go on yet.
