RE: [cobalt-users] newbie postgresql - HELP postgresql not responding!!

Opps,
I'm not quite sure what I have done but I'm getting e-mails saying that the
postgresql server has stopped responding.
I have tried to restart it and I get:

[root init.d]#  ./postgresql status
postmaster is stopped
[root init.d]#  ./postgresql start
Setting up PostgreSQL: failed!
[root init.d]#  ./postgresql restart
Shutting down PostgreSQL: not running!
Setting up PostgreSQL: failed!

I've had a look at the log file and it says this:

Shutdown failed - abort
/usr/bin/postmaster does not find the database system.  Expected to find it
in the PGDATA directory "/var/lib/pgsql/data", but unable to open file with
pathname "/var/lib/pgsql/data/base/template1/pg_class".

Now I was trying to fix a problem when trying to create a database which
sent back an error saying...
=>
=> I get this error message
=> "psql: No pg_hba.conf entry for host localhost, user admin, database
=> template1"

I cahnge the file permissions to admin so I could download the file. (I
didnot alter the file or upload it back to the raq!) So im guessing
postgresql wont run with the permissions set to admin. what should these be
set to?

O! Erm do they do the same thing? If not where can I buy Mysql from? And how
would I install it?

Are you sure you have not got MySQL and PostgreSQL mixed up here? The raq
comes with PostgreSQL but not MySQL by default.
