Thanks Ed.
I'm not entirely sure I know what you mean. Are you saying that I should
add the users manually first on the new box and then copy the password file
over?
If that's the case then I think the problem is that the new box is already
live. I've been running 2 servers for a while now with all new customers
going straight on to the new box. So, there are about 90 sites already
running on the new box and 30 or so left on the old box. I'm doing them
site by site as I have to download all the files, upload them to the new
box, change the nameservers and then make sure things like the scripts are
still working. In most cases it's quite simple as there is just a catch all
that gets forwarded somewhere. There are about 5 sites that are more
complicated as there are several users and I don't have the passwords for
their accounts.
That's also just reminded me that one site has it's own ip address which is
in addition to the 2 already on the box. What will I need to do to add this
ip address to the new box so that I can transfer the site fairly seamlessly.
It's an e-commerce site running SSL and doing GBP500k+ a year so that's one
that I definitely don't want to screw up!
Cheers
Andy
