RE: [cobalt-users] Reverse Deligation

Hi Rick,

Here is how we handle Reverse Deligation on our Raq4 DNS server.
We have a manually created file in /etc/named called:
pri.3.2.1.in-addr.arpa.include
(Actual File name is different based upon the real IP(s))

The above example file name assumes IP addresses of 1.2.3.xx
So, for IP addresses in the Class C of 101.202.103.xx the file name would
be:
pri.103.202.101.in-addr.arpa.include

We have 1 file for each Class C of IP Addresses in use.

The contents of the file are as follows:

221	in	ns	ns1.domain.com.
222	in	ns	ns1.domain.com.
223	in	ns	ns1.domain.com.
224	in	ns	ns1.domain.com.

The above example is only 4 lines of the file and only passes reverse for
the 4 IP(s) xx.xx.xx.221 - xx.xx.xx.224 Please Note, the PERIOD at the
end of the line is critical. Also, make sure to do an ndc restart after
making changes to the file.

This is just how we handle it, there may be other ways and it wouldn't be
too difficult to add a GUI page to handle edits of the file.
