Please advise: I would like to know what to do and how to do it.
I'm guessing the two most likely things that might help are
downloading the previous kernel from sun and putting that one back,
since the current one isn't working or pulling added memory if this is
likely caused by bad memory, or updating my rom if this is caused by
the rom.
This is getting terrible:
Updated my old stable XTR to use the 550 OS. Added 1GB to max out the
memory. Installed all the updates from Sun. Installed (All) the
packages, commercial and free, from Nuonce. I compiled squid.
I ran the memory test package from Sun, my rom only show 512MB so I
might have a bad chip.
Either kernel or program is swallowing all my memory and the machine
goes crash, crash, crash. My /var/log/kernel is filled with messages
about the crash, but nothing to tell me what is causing it.
