I usually edit the CMU.XML file and change the IP address to the new server
then import then rename VSITE in admin. I also change DNS on both domain
names to a few seconds a week before migration. Once I import and rename.
Then I change the DNS and everything is unnoticed.
Renaming a VSITE in a cobalt does not rename the group. The group is always
site1, site2, site3, etc. So renaming doesn't hurt anything except the
change-all-user.
