I had some problems in an update. I used the CMU to go from an XTR to
a 550 setup. I had a few users that did not get restored. How would I
restore them manually? The .gz files were damaged.
I restored the XTR files from the backup -- but the XTR itself was
upgraded to run the 550 software. I can easily copy their files over
-- but I assume I have to make entries in the pgsql database. If there
is no way to recover, I could still recreate the users and such - but
I've no idea how to get their passwords back. The encrypted passwords
were in /etc/shadow on the XTR. I assume that the CMU copies them
someplace - but I've no idea where. (The unencrypted passwords should
not be on either system, so they could not have been used.)
All I'd need to do is recreate the users, copy over their old mail and
new mail (I have mail coming to me as admin instead of letting the no
user error go out), and put their permission and password back in
place.
