We have clients who primarily use IMAP clients to login and read their mail
but since technically, they are not popping their mail before trying to send
through the SMTP server, our Raq XTR prevents them from using the mail server
to send.
Does it happen to everyone? Everytime? The 2 most critical questions!!!!
What program are they using to SMTP? (just curious to be able to vision
your situation better).
What program are they using to IMAP? (if not the same)
Did you try POP, does it work normally?
What is the actual error?
Is it 550 Relaying Denied?
Or are you dealing with server not found issues?
Is it a relaying or DNS problem?
Did you check mail server settings?
Is this a new box or an old one that just started doing this?
As the other post mentioned, that the documentation says that POP and IMAP
should both work, maybe you have a different problem??
Have you tried a program like Eudora that allows you to set SMTP to allow
authentication? I don't know if the RAQ supports SMTP authentication
(someone on this list much more smarterer than I on this subject will know).
Eudora supports POP and IMAP, so it would be very easy to test back and
forth. Set your POP-BEFORE-RELAY time limit very low to run your tests,
unless you like 15 minute coffee breaks every 15 minutes.
Do you possibly have firewall issues?
Are all these users in one place (office) or can't we blame a local firewall?
What about server-side firewall?
Never really played with IMAP, are the ports different than POP ... do they
authenticate on one port and then use another ... just anything that would
allow the authentication but not be able to obtain the local IP address.
Is there a way on the RAQ to see the current list of acceptable IPs? That
would be a huge help.
Good luck, please let us know if you find anything.
