The swap file (hard disk memory) gets used when all free RAM has been used
up so if you see free ram then it is likely that you will not see the swap
file being used.

The Mem line above should show ram available,used,free.

With 512Mb of RAM then it is less likely that the swap file gets used, with
128Mb of RAM then your swapfile will be used often and slow things down.
