Hi,
Has anyone setup a spare server, for backup?
We are running 2 servers, and one is solely for backup
if the main one goes down.
We use raqbackup, but the issue I want to sort out is how
to setup the 2nd server so that it can be put in service
at anytime from a ssh session.
My problem is that:
* I want to be able to install patches to the 2nd server
(not make a copy of the primary), so that it is kept
'clean'
* Change the IPs for the 2nd server when its time to
panic, for the ethernet interfaces and DNS, including all
DNS entries. unless the DNS is a duplicate of the main
server(but then we can't test sites on the backup server).
We have thought of a firewall device takes on the
external IP and that port forwards to the 'current server'
anyone done this?
We had a crash once, the stress is to great to bear, again
:)
Thanks,
